Special Note: HWY 165 leading up Sandia Peak from the north to south is DIRT & GRAVEL from Ocha Springs Road to the Hwy 536 / Hwy 165 intersection (8 miles). Not recommended. (Dirt & Gravel stretch map) Use Hwy 536 from the south to ride Sandia Crest. |
Sandia Crest & Back Approx. 104 miles, 2hrs 20min (52 miles, 1 Hr 9 mins each way) This is one of the shortest, but best rides. Going up Sandia Peak is our favorite local motorcycle road with so many curves. There is a certain German local COG member that does this almost every Saturday! Take a break at the top, visit the gift store and take in the views from 10,500 feet overlooking ABQ – Santa Fe area. For one direction you can substitute Hwy 556 for a portion of Hwy 25 & 40, it passes the Sandia Peak Tramway station. Visit Tinker town museum , Home - Tinkertown Museum, as you turn onto the crest road.

This is a loop on the GPX and PDF Google keeps changing the mini map | Turns n' Valles Caldera Approx. 163 miles, 3hrs This is a nice ride to the Jemez Pueblo, see Soda Dam and taste a delicious Indian Taco made by the peoples by the roadside. Continue into the mountains with twisty roads to the Valles Caldera. Visit Bandelier National Monument or take a short detour to Los Alamos home of the Atomic Bomb

Mountainair Mission Loop Approx. 188 miles, 3.5 hrs This is a nice ride through our mountainous roads. Visit the Salinas Pueblo Mission. Stop in Albuquerque on your way back and visit the Balloon Museum, Down town Albuquerque, Take a Breaking Bad tour etc. We will have a list of local attractions available as well.

Hyde Park to Las Vegas, NM Approx. 303 miles, 5.75 hrs Ride the famous High Road to Taos and enjoy twisty roads, culture and scenic beauty. Run up to Hyde Park in Santa Fe and get your fill of more curvy roads.

Twists n' Turns LONG Approx. 356 miles, 6.5 hrs A longer version of Twists n' Turns MEDIUM. Also a nice ride through beautiful parts of northern New Mexico with views and fun roads.

Big New Mexico Loop Approx. 358 miles, 7 hrs 42 min See the Jemez Pueblo, Gilman Tunnels, Valles Caldera National Preserve, Bandelier National Monument, Los Alamos, Ride along the Rio Grande to Taos, Visit the Gorge Bridge or Taos Pueblo. The pueblos are one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the United States. Red River Kuzin, Ted’s favorite German place, the enchanted circle to eagle nest to Angel Fire. You will pass the Vietnam Veterans Memorial which you don’t want to miss. Then back through the Taos canyon for some real fun twisties. A lot of these roads were just freshly paved in 2024. From Taos ride the famous high road to Taos back to HQ.

Chama - Antonito Cano’s Castle Approx. 360 miles, 6 hrs 11 min Ride to beautiful Chama. See the old steam locomotives and ride some beautiful twisty roads up in the northern mountains to San Antonio Colorado and see Cano’s castle. You will not be disappointed. You can also head out to Pagosa springs from Chama to visit their hot springs and the ride out there is well worth it.

Chama – Pagosa Springs Loop Approx. 400 miles, 6 hrs 42 min Ride to beautiful Chama and up along the Rio Grande where there is some good White Water Rafting. Beautiful ride with awesome views, experience northern New Mexico. From Chama ride to Pagosa Springs, soak in the hot springs.

El Malpais - Sky City - Very Large Array Approx. 400 miles, 6.5 hours This fun and beautiful ride to the southwest of HQ has many interesting stops along is curves and scenery. Among them: Sky City Cultural Center and Haak'u Museum rich in cultural architecture, is the gateway to Acoma “Sky City” El Malpais Wilderness, arichly diverse volcanic landscape of lava flows, cinder cones, lava tube caves, and sandstone bluffs. Plus a nice Visitor Center. The Very Large Array at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory near Socorro NM including exhibits and an award winning documentary presentation by Jodie Foster.

Remotest | Alien Hunting in Roswell NM As short as 440 miles, 6.5 hours on the largest, straightest roads If you really wanna see Roswell and its kitchy Alien presence, it is a doable adventure from Rally HQ. You can pick the fastest route, remotest route or something in between. Use your favorite mapping program to find a route that suits your ride time needs. |

Curviest | Beach Day at White Sands As short as 470 miles, 7 hours on the shortest straightest round trip White Sands National Park is one of New Mexico's top attractions, and it is within day ride distance of Rally HQ. Along with Rudioso and Alamogordo it definitely might be worth a visit. Rudioso and the White Mountains / Sierra Blanca adds a lot of curves. Use your favorite mapping program to find a route that suits your ride time needs. |
